5 Ways We Uplifted Our Communities in 2025
At NRG, giving back is a year-long mission. In 2025, our teams across North America came together to support local communities through a variety of volunteer projects focused on hunger relief, disaster response, and spreading holiday joy. Here’s a look at some of the moments that defined our year of impact.
During our 18th annual positiveNRG Impact Week, more than 1,800 employees across the United States and Canada volunteered during NRGs Meals for Millions initiative, to help fight hunger and provide hope for families in need. In addition to packing meals, NRG committed $400,000 to local food banks and hunger relief organizations. This initiative was about more than reaching a goal; it reflected the commitment embedded in our DNA as a company to provide support where it’s needed most.
When disaster strikes, we stand with our people and communities. Earlier this year, devastating floods affected communities across Central Texas. NRG and Reliant responded with $500,000 to support the Kerr County Flood Relief and Central Texas Community Foundation with recovery efforts, first responders, and mental health services. NRG and Reliant also triple-matched eligible employee donations and provided support to affected employees through our NRG Employee Relief Fund.
In December, NRG employees delivered holiday cheer to underserved families across 90 locations nationwide through programs like Sub for Santa, hosted by Vivint Gives Back, Navidad En El Barrio, Toys for Tots, and the Daisie Foundation. Through these events employees were able to bring the joyful spirit of the season to life for families and children in need.
For the 20th year of Reliant’s Beat the Heat program, nearly 1,300 cooling devices were distributed across 40 Texas centers to help keep vulnerable residents cool during extreme temperatures. The Beat the Heat program provides communities a practical way to stay comfortable while also reducing electricity use during the hottest days of the year.
For the third year in a row, Direct Energy proudly supported Variety — the Children’s Charity of Alberta, through its Go Baby Go program in Calgary. Volunteers and community partners adapted ride-on remote cars for children with limited mobility, giving them a sense of independence and inclusion. For the program, Direct Energy committed $15,000 to fund five adaptive car built by more than 20 Direct Energy employees.
As we close out 2025, we’re proud to celebrate our employees and non-profit partners whose passion and commitment created meaningful change in communities across North America. We look forward to carrying this momentum into 2026 and continuing to make a lasting, positive impact for the people who need it the most.
